Below you will find Bill\u2019s view, or to read the entire article, please\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.courierpostonline.com\/story\/news\/local\/south-jersey\/2014\/11\/29\/layoffs-making-progress-caught\/19682737\/\">(click here)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cautious employers<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:wemerson@emersongroupinc.com\">Bill Emerson<\/a>\u00a0had an abundance of great candidates in 2011, but not so many employers looking to hire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He is CEO of the Emerson Group in Cherry Hill, a staffing and recruiting firm for employers since 1971.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Three years ago, companies were hesitant to bring on workers full-time. The trend shifted toward temp-to-hire, with employers taking on workers for a short period of time before deciding whether to add them to the payroll.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Today, in a slowly emerging economy, employers are showing more confidence.<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2917 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/emersongroupinc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bill-Emerson-President.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are extremely busy with consistent growth in direct-to-hire,\u201d Emerson said. \u201cWe also are seeing candidates being hired quicker.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Although wages remain stagnant, Emerson can attest to a loosening of the purse strings for the most talented workers, especially in IT, health care, law and insurance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe top candidates are getting back in the driver\u2019s seat,\u201d he added. \u201cEmployers are getting creative with signing bonuses.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Still, positions in middle management eliminated during the recession are not being refilled. And it\u2019s a tough sell persuading employers to consider workers who have been jobless for more than a year, unless they have gone back to school.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey ask, \u2018If they are that good, why are they out so long?\u2019 \u201d Emerson explained.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Three years ago, workers concerned with job security tended to stick with their current employers. These days, Emerson sees more activity among people willing to change jobs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are seeing people who already are employed being head-hunted. They are more willing to go from one company to the next.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Despite growth in the economy, employers are choosy, requesting two or three qualified candidates for each position.
