{"id":3303,"date":"2012-06-11T18:55:46","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T23:55:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emersongroupinc.com\/?p=3303"},"modified":"2025-03-15T18:56:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-15T23:56:39","slug":"war-for-talent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emersongroupinc.com\/war-for-talent\/","title":{"rendered":"The War for Top Talent\u2026Don\u2019t be left behind!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we all know, the last few years have been extremely challenging.\u00a0 Businesses have had to downsize, right-size, restructure, re-brand, and basically do whatever it takes to survive.\u00a0 Some made it through and some did not.\u00a0 The companies that are still standing today, congratulations!\u00a0 You have managed your way through one of the most difficult economies our country has ever experienced and you are on the road to recovery.\u00a0 Demand for your products and services are on the rise.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Now what?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One of the first challenges most businesses are facing during this recovery is how to rebuild their team.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0For the past few years owners and managers have been able to operate \u201clean and mean.\u201d\u00a0 They cut staff back to the bare minimum and asked those remaining employees to step up and do more to \u201chelp us through these tough times.\u201d\u00a0 This strategy was necessary and most likely successful.\u00a0 However, business is now starting to pick up.\u00a0 The work load on existing employees is at an all-time high and they are feeling it.\u00a0 With the job market slowly making a shift back in the positive direction, companies are gaining confidence and adding to their core personnel.\u00a0 It is time to start investing back into your work force.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, candidates are gaining confidence in the job market.\u00a0 They are more open to looking at other opportunities and not \u201cjust happy to have a job.\u201d\u00a0 Many employees that stayed on through the difficult time are now testing the waters.\u00a0 Additionally, candidates are regaining some leverage in the hiring process and their position of value is increasing.<\/p>\n<p>So what does this all mean for hiring managers?\u00a0 Well, it means many positive things, but specific to the recruitment process it means\u00a0<strong><em>THE WAR FOR TOP TALENT IS ON!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Over the past few years hiring managers have been able to be very selective and take their time when hiring for open positions.\u00a0 Their pool of candidates were full of top talent and with so few positions available, they were in the driver\u2019s seat.\u00a0 If one candidate turned down an offer, there were three or four other qualified candidates in a position to accept. \u00a0\u00a0Companies have also been able to hold on to top talent due to the employees\u2019 fear of change during difficult times.\u00a0 The tide is turning.<\/p>\n<p>So, what can be done?\u00a0 First, take a look at your current hiring process.\u00a0 Where can you tighten it up so you don\u2019t lose top talent to delays and red tape?\u00a0 Where can you speed up the decision process so you can\u00a0<em><strong>CLOSE ON TOP TALENT QUICKLY<\/strong>?<\/em>\u00a0 Change your mind set from \u201clet\u2019s see what else is out there\u201d to \u201clet\u2019s hire talent when we see it.\u201d\u00a0 If you have a candidate that meets all your requirements, is a good culture fit and has proven accomplishments\u2026<strong>HIRE THEM<\/strong>!\u00a0 If you don\u2019t, someone else will.\u00a0 Also, meet with your current core staff to make sure they are happy and challenged.\u00a0 Do you need to make some changes to keep them?\u00a0 Again, if you don\u2019t make sure they\u2019re happy, someone else will.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The war is on.
